At elements furniture, we believe that every space has a story to tell, and our recent collaboration with Jacques Bakery & the designer Chantelle Lee of Urban Space Interior Design is a perfect example of how bespoke craftsmanship can bring that story to life.
When Chantelle Lee approached us for the launch of this new business, she sought a design that would honour the bakeries artisanal roots while embracing modern functionality. We embraced this vision, crafting each element of the refit with a deep respect for the four natural elements earth, water, fire, and air infusing them into every piece we created. Central to our approach was the strategic use of steel a material that brought strength, style, and a touch of contemporary elegance to every aspect of the project.
Shelving: Air and Water in Minimalist Design
For the shelving frames, we drew inspiration from the elements of air and water, aiming to create a design that was both light and fluid. We crafted open shelves ensuring a cohesive aesthetic throughout the space. The minimalist design allows air to flow freely, creating an open, airy atmosphere that enhances the customer experience.
To complement the shelves’ lightness, we focused our attention on hidden fixings so as to achieve a floating look and feel. These brackets offer sturdy support while maintaining the shelving’s minimalist appeal, allowing the bakery’s products to take centre stage. The flow and movement inherent in the design make the shelves not just functional but also visually dynamic, echoing the fluidity of water.
Outdoor Seating: Connecting with Nature
The outdoor seating area was crafted to bring the bakery’s interior warmth outside, connecting with the elements of earth and air. The seating area is designed to be inviting and comfortable, encouraging customers to linger and enjoy a coffee with friends.
A custom-designed pergola constructed by locally sourced contractors was the canvas for elements to bring in a touch of sleekness to the outdoor space, offering shade and structure. This addition ties the seating area back to the natural elements, providing a shelter that feels both protective and open, like a harmonious blend of earth and air.
A Bespoke Refit Rooted in the Elements
Working with Urban Space Interior on this bespoke shop refit has been a true collaboration rooted in craftsmanship, attention to detail and the natural elements. By incorporating earth, air, fire, and water into our designs, we’ve created a space that honours the bakery’s heritage while embracing its future. Every countertop, shelf, and seating area are a testament to the power of bespoke design, crafted with care and intention by all the teams involved. At elements furniture, we’re proud to have played a part in crafting a space where tradition and modernity coexist beautifully.
Chantelle said that ‘It was a pleasure working with the elements furniture team on this project. They were extremely reliable & professional with great communication. From the design to the build, to the install, everything ran smoothly. I look forward to working with elements furniture once again on our next upcoming project.’
